There are still many reminders both of the influence of Sweden and of Finland's history and growth as a nation.

Hanko is the southernmost town of Finland, and with its marinas, cafes, restaurants and picturesque villas, it has an almost continental atmosphere..

Tammisaari is famous for its Old Wooden Town and the castle ruins of Raasepori.

Old iron works communities laid the foundation for Finnish industry. The old work milieus are carefully preserved as museum areas, and a walk in Mustio, Antskog, Fagervik, Billnäs or Fiskars is an adventure for a whole family.

Mustio Manor in Pohja municipality is a fabulous wooden 18th century manor. You can take a guided tour and hear the legends of kings, noblemen, beautiful ladies -- and a few ghost stories, too! After your tour, lunch or dinner is available in the mansion restaurant. You can also take a stroll in the lovely park and enjoy its statues and lakes.

The iron works village of Fiskars has been awarded the prestigious Europa Nostra Diploma for outstanding conservation of natural heritage. In the village, you can visit a museum, exhibitions, art and craft stores and artists' workshops.

In the city of Lohja you can visit St. Lawrence Church, one of the most significant examples of Finnish medieval church architecture, or you may like to descend 110 metres into the Tytyri mining museum and experience the show of lights, music and sculptures. Near Lohja, Paikkari Cottage in Sammatti municipality offers a glimpse into the past: Elias Lönnrot, the collector ot the ancient poems of the Kalevala, was born here.

Hvitträsk in Kirkkonummi is one of the most remarkable examples of the Finnish National Romantic style. It was a studio of the famous trio of architects Saarinen, Lindgren and Geselius, as well as the home of Eliel Saarinen. This Art Nouveau style building is delightfully located by a lake.
