| Northern Uusimaa
Lake Tuusulanjärvi and its surroundings, no more than half an hour from Helsinki, have had a profound influence on artists and musicians throughout the ages, and still today the call of this unique cultural milieu of Järvenpää, Tuusula and Kerava is hard to resist. By the Tuusula Lake Road were the homes of many great Finnish artists from the golden era. You can visit Halosenniemi, the studio of Pekka Halonen, or Ahola, the home of the author Juhani Aho. There is also Ainola, the home of the great composer Jean Sibelius. The house and its interior are preserved intact when Sibelius lived there. In Kerava Art Museum you can find one of the best collections of Finnish contemporary art. Further north lies the town of Hyvinkää, where the Finnish Railway Museum can befound, and close by is a large park area of Kytäjä-Usmi, an extensive area with forests and lakes. Nurmijärvi is the birthplace and home of the writer Aleksis Kivi, and there is also the heritage museum of Taaborinvuori at Palojoki. The north-east of Uusimaa, the municipalities of Mäntsälä and Pornainen, are famous for their manors. Alikartano-Frugård is nowadays a museum, with a cosy café and Kotojärvi manor offers a lot if you are interested in nature, hiking or golf. ---- Welcome to Uusimaa |
